Gifting Story

It’s tough to give a gift to the one who has everything; and it would seem as if everyone had everything nowadays.  Long gone are the days to just drop a bouquet of flowers and some chocolate, because you are regularly expected this minimum level of effort in expressing your love.  But with thoughtful strategies and pre-planning, it is still possible to win the heart of the one who has everything.

To win a heart, it is obvious that you must care, and therefore must pay attention.  In every relationship, it matters always the attention to the little things.  Common sense may be that you must have the means in order to woo.  But it is actually constraints that enable creativity, together with the attention to details that enable delight and enchantment.

Perhaps your loved one has always wanted to see New York City, but you have not either the time or the means to take them on one.  Attempting to win their heart for a special holiday, you may try to create the experience of an adventure to The Big Apple, accordingly conceiving your plan by crafting your story, mapping your path, and taking them on that magic carpet ride.

It’s early morn, and like Holly Golightly, the two of you are having breakfast at Tiffany’s.  You may not yet be able to afford a Tiffany ring, but coffee, croissant, and an engraved ring from a box of Cracker Jack could certainly put you in the mood.  Instead of coming home to nap after breakfast, which would also be delightful, you take a stroll in Central Park.  You saunter past green leafy forest, smelling woody scents and gazing at the santal sky.  These vagabond shoes are longing to stray through New York, New York to put you in a New York State of Mind.  Because when you get caught between the Moon and New York City, the best that you can do is fall in love.  You may feel like a legal alien in New York, but it is here where the Empire State of Mind is made of.

Empty belly may fancy bagels on the Upper West Side, pizza in Little Italy, dumplings in Chinatown, soul food in Harlem, or the empire cut at the Old Homestead Steakhouse.  Share their favorite meal; devote time to learn and prepare it.  Watch that movie.  Listen to that classic.  Because in the end, it’s all about taking time together.

One day, you’ll take them on an adventure to New York City.  Now, come bearing gifts wrapped in luxurious cloths and stories.
